Work play. Marketing.

It's been almost a year i have been working in the marketing department at dlmi. Many people still don't understand what marketing is all about. And on this post, i would like to extend a bit of my understanding on what marketing working environment is like.

Now let me just state what marketing is all About.

1) marketeers plans the marketing strategy of a brand each year.
2) marketeers seek for opportunities to expand their brands
3) marketeers decides the feel and aura that a brand gives, And this involves the development of free gifts, point of sales materials and development of ads
4) marketeers delivers the needs of consumers, and creates the needs of consumers on the things they might not need
5) marketeers plans for new product development to cater for the ever changing consumer needs
6) marketeers engage with pr agencies to manage consumer relations and media relations with the public
7) marketeers look into channels and distribution channels they can penetrate into to expand their business
8) marketeers sets the direction of the company is the major core department in the business divisions
9) marketeers plans many on ground activation events to such as sampling, roadshows, school visits and etc to get closer to their consumers
10) marketeers are responsible of understanding consumer's needs and engaging with them.

if you think you're the type of person who loves to work in a dynamic challenging environment that could be quite hectic and involves a lot of coordinating and planning, then this job is the right one for you.

Despite the busy work schedule, marketing is a good area to start your career, it's fast paced and exciting all at the same time.

i really do enjoy what i have been doing for the past 8 months, though sometimes i question whether this career path is right for me. But then again, talking about the working environment, everywhere is sort of the same, i just got to learn to adapt and know how to play the game. On another note, there's so much that i have to learn since everything is new for me. And i got to keep my heads high and my chin up, and have faith that i can really do this!

On another note, Working in such a big corporation has allowed me to get to know quite a few remarkable figure in the industry, people who made a difference in the msian scene, and i am glad to be given such chance to work closely with them.

And today i got to work the late yasmin ahmad's husband, mr tan yew leong, and this is quite a remarkable day for the year 2012, knowing that he is yasmin's husband made me feel so timid and small despite the fact that i am on the client side. Lol. Got to have lunch with him and some small chat. That was exciting enough for me.

And now i am loving the start of the year 2012. Cheers to a great year ahead :)
